Peters shines at British Champs
It was an action-packed British Swimming Championships at Ponds Forge in Sheffield with some incredible swims by the lads showing great form in the lead up to World Championships. The meet acted as selection for World Championships in Fukuoka in July which both Jacob Peters and Jacob Whittle have now been officially selected for. Well done Jacobs!
Jacob Peters brought his A game to British Champs with two outstanding swims to show the world that he is a serious contender for a podium finish in Japan. Jacob took the 50m and 100m butterfly double clocking a 51.16 in the 100m butterfly final which was a PB and then swam a huge PB in the 50m butterfly to stop the clock first in a scintillating 22.89. It is the fastest time in the world this year and Jacob was ecstatic with his performance. He said that he felt good, relaxed and excited to race so he was confident that the work he had put into training would come together on the day, and it did. Now it’s onto Mare Nostrum, Setti Colli and then Worlds.
Jacob Whittle was in amongst an incredible field which could have doubled as a World Championships semi-final. At a meet where Matt Richards achieved the incredible feat of sub 22, 48 and 1:45 second swims for the 50m, 100m, and 200m freestyle, the first time anyone has ever achieved such times in one meet, Jacob was 2nd fastest qualifier into the final of the 100m freestyle. But he couldn’t match his 48.45 second heat swim and finished 5thin 48.66. The top 7 went under 49 seconds, so watch out for that relay!
Scott Gibson also had a successful British Champs with the 50m and 100m backstroke. He swam a 25.30 in the finals placing 4thand just missing out on the podium. He was relatively happy with the swim as he was only 0.04 seconds outside of his personal best. In the 100m backstroke, he swam a new personal best time of 55.33 in the finals and placed 12th. He was happy with the swim and felt he attacked the race down the first 50m well, but needs to work on his second 50m. Overall Scott went into the meet tapered and achieved his goals. He plans to compete in the Mare Nostrum series and Sette Colli in the coming months.
It's now onto more racing in May at Mare Nostrum for the boys so we’ll keep you posted on their journey into a big summer of competition.
